Christopher B. Keeler

Translating the Complex

Chris is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Corporate Practice Groups. He concentrates his practice on general business law and complex business litigation by assisting clients with a variety of business and development needs. Chris draws upon his experience appearing in courts around the country, representing clients in commercial disputes and other business issues.

Additionally, Chris devotes a portion of his practice to counseling clients on data protection programs and the minimization of risks associated with data privacy, data management, breach response and recovery, and other privacy and security issues. Chris helps clients be proactive in complying with U.S. and global privacy and data security laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the European Union’s General Data Privacy Protection Regulation (GDPR). As part of these efforts, Chris assists with data mapping and inventory, reviews data privacy plans, notices, and policies, and educates and trains clients on relevant data privacy issues and obligations. Additionally, Chris assists clients in minimizing litigation liability and other privacy related risks.

Experience/Representative Client Work

Litigation and Governmental Investigations

  • Represent whistleblowers and other qui tam plaintiffs in False Claims Act Cases;
  • Cooperate with and facilitate governmental investigations;
  • Represented company alleging infringement of state and federal trademark rights;
  • Represented purchaser in intentional misrepresentation case and succeeded at trial, winning requested damages and attorneys’ fees;
  • Represented client in winning temporary restraining order and permanent injunction in business organization dispute concerning interpretation of operating agreement.

Data Privacy and Security

  • Represented technology start-up to ensure compliance with various privacy laws, including CCPA, COPPA, and Wisconsin specific laws. Cooperated with app developers and company to ensure that app adhered to privacy standards. Drafted privacy policies and user and driver terms and conditions;
  • Represented private equity to ensure compliance with various privacy laws, including CCPA and COPPA. Drafted privacy policies, agreements, and terms and conditions;
  • Represented medical transport company in response to a data breach with required reporting and notification. Developed privacy policies and procedures for how to respond to future incidents.
  • Represented companies in updating privacy policies and advised on evolving obligations under CCPA and GDPR;
  • Represented third-party broker in international, multi-party asset procurement deals and advised on various privacy-related matters, including NDAs, international transfer regulations, and more.
